Decked Out
The first thoughts about a wedding might not be consumed by what trappings hang from the rafters, the atmosphere is nevertheless essential. Ambience and decoration add emotional depth and often carry the largest burdens of theme and setting in a wedding. Wedding themes range from “The Wizard of Oz” to swashbuckling and apparently betrothing pirates. While couples’ intentions may be somewhere in between those two, the wedding’s décor adds charm and memorializes the wedding and ensuing celebration.“It’s all about the bride and what she wants to portray,” said co-owner of Plan-It Events Lisa Croston. Accoutrements from unity candles to sand decanters or cultural and religious decorations can all be used to enhance the aesthetics of a wedding. “It is easy to enhance spaces with the simplest touches,” said Croston. Often, brides’ own plans for their décor come from weddings that the bride has attended and has been impressed with. Most often brides are asking how to break from tradition and trend. “The question is, what do you want your guests coming away saying about the wedding?” said Croston.
You don’t need to set aside an extravagant budget for décor, either. Obtaining the quality ambience you desire is not a function of money but rather of time committed. Though Croston does admit that recent trends have been quite dazzling to the eye, “We call it the “bling” factor, diamonds and sparkles on anything,” said Croston.
Decorators will use candles, lighting, ribbons, floral arrangements, and balloon sculptures to create the perfect environment for the lovely couple. Coming down to it, the main attraction at weddings should be the two persons proclaiming devotion to one another. The décor doesn’t detract from that but should enhance it, amplifying the grandeur of the moment of “I do”.
