Manchester company delivers cleaner water solution

How many times have you or a co-worker grappled with one of those infamous, 45-pound blue water jugs?
Do you hide when it comes time to change the office dispenser?
One Manchester-based company is bringing peace of mind to this issue, while helping New England businesses, residences, and everything in between to “kick the bottle.”
Stonybrook Water Company LLC is a relatively young business that’s generating a great deal of interest. Using state-of-the-art filtration technology, Stonybrook’s ION drinking water appliance is able to instantly chill or heat water in less than half-a-second, while at the same time, filtering countless impurities, such as chlorine and lead, from the city’s tap.
The system’s health advantages over conventional water dispensers are far greater, says Stonybrook President Tim Brown.
“In an average setup,” Brown said, “water comes from a bottle and then sits in a holding tank, where it eventually becomes bacteria infested. Unless the tank is cleaned constantly, this water becomes impure and can cause harm to your body. Unlike those setups, our dispensers only draw and filter water when you need it. We like to claim it’s freshly squeezed water.”
Brown attributes a large part of Stonybrook’s success to the current economic situation.
“Businesses are more than wiling to switch to our product when they can free up storage space, and save up to 40 percent on what they spend on water,” he said.
Although Stonybrook Water systems are being installed in a variety of businesses around the region, including the Gloucester Times offices on Whittemore Street, Brown is finding that a large percentage of his clientele are residential homeowners.
“Many of our customers are first exposed to the systems in their offices,” he said. “After discovering the health benefits and efficiency associated with our product, they order one for their house, and wind up using the dispenser for much more than just drinking water.
“Once they learn that they can have unlimited access to crisp clean water, they realize that there’s no need to scrimp,” he added. “They begin to cook with it, make their coffee with it, and even keep their pets happy and healthy by giving them pure water.”
With rising pressure in today’s world to be eco-friendly, Brown is encouraging consumers to consider Stonybrook’s product if they are looking to “go green.”
“Just one of our filter cycles is equivalent to 8,016, 20-ounce plastic water bottles,” he says. “We can also reduce the amount of trucks carrying around those big blue bottles. That means less pollution — which means a healthier world for our children.”
With purification technology improving and frustration over conventional dispensing methods escalating, Brown believes that there will be a large influx of Stonybrook subscribers.
“Even now,” he says, “people are starting to recognize that bottled water is nothing but a marketing scam. If hot spots like Trader Joe’s and Symphony Hall are picking up our product, we’ve gotta be onto something.”
