Baseball Movies Are an Entertainment Home Run

The boys (and girls) of summer are in full swing. As long as there is a bat, a ball and some bases to run, there is fun to be had all over the country.

Baseball fans may enjoy a neighborhood kids' game or a pickup game with a few buddies. A visit to the stadium to catch their favorite professional team hit one out of the park is always an exciting event. Fans can also tune into one of these classic baseball flicks if they need an extra baseball pick-me-up.

Angels in the Outfield (1994): Roger prays to God to help the California Angels win the pennant so that his estranged parents can get back together. This movie version stars Danny Glover, Tony Danza and Christopher Lloyd. A 1951 version was previously released with a completely different plot line.

The Babe Ruth Story (1948): History buffs or simply classic baseball lovers can follow the rise of historic baseball star Babe Ruth from his troubled youth to superstardom.

The Bad News Bears (1976): A drunken ex-ballplayer is forced to coach a kids' little league team. He's more interested in partying than molding young players; that is until he's sick of seeing his team consistently lose. A 2005 release also exists.

Bull Durham (1988): Kevin Costner stars in this movie about a rookie phenom, minor league pitcher who is a little too wild for his own good. Susan Sarandon co-stars.

The Fan (1996): The stakes are high for San Francisco Giants player Bobby Rayburn (Wesley Snipes) when psychotic fan Gil Renard (Robert DeNiro) kidnaps his son and demands a home run for ransom.

Fever Pitch (2005): Ben and Lindsay (Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore) have a great relationship, until she's introduced to his other love ... The Boston Red Sox.

Field of Dreams (1989): Another baseball movie starring Kevin Costner. Ray hears voices that tell him to build a baseball field in his Iowa cornfield. Soon after 1919 White Sox players begin to appear.

A League of Their Own (1992): Former pro (Tom Hanks) has been hired to coach an all-female baseball team (Geena Davis, Madonna, Rosie O'Donnell) while their male counterparts are at war. At first he protests until he learns just how well the ladies can play.

Major League (1989): Fans witnessed another hit baseball flick in 1989 with the release of "Major League." The Cleveland Indians new owner wants to relocate her team to Miami, but can only do so if game attendance drops. The misfit team rallies to fill the stands. Stars Charlie Sheen and Tom Berenger, among others.

The Rookie (2002): An injured player loses his dream of making it big in the pros. While coaching a high school team, players learn that their coach is not to be counted out and force him to try out for the Majors. Stars Dennis Quaid.

The Sandlot (1993): Scotty Smalls learns you have to know baseball to be in with the crowd of his new hometown in this children's favorite.

Summer Catch (2001): An aspiring college pitcher (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) must face demons and distractions, including a beautiful young woman (Jessica Biel), in order to become as a major league player.
